Using Insurance at FCCI Orange Park: Medicare, Tricare and More

A quick guide to plans, referrals and avoiding surprises.

First Coast Cardiovascular Institute accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid of Florida, Tricare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare. A few plans have exceptions. The quickest way to be sure is to call the Orange Park office at 904.644.0092 with your insurance card in hand.

Plans on FCCI's accepted list

Here are some of the plans FCCI lists:

  • Medicare, AARP Medicare Complete and Railroad Medicare
  • Medicaid of Florida, Sunshine Medicaid and Simply Medicare and Medicaid
  • Tricare for Life, Tricare Prime and Tricare Standard
  • Aetna, Cigna Healthcare, United Healthcare and UMR
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (except Shands' Gator Care)
  • Humana (except Humana Gold Plus HMO and Humana Medicaid)

The full list on FCCI's site includes more plans. If yours is not listed, call anyway.

Military families and retirees

Clay County is home to many military families and retirees. FCCI accepts Tricare for Life, Tricare Prime and Tricare Standard. If you are on Tricare Prime, check whether you need a referral before your visit.

Referrals and authorizations

Some plans, especially HMOs, require a referral from your primary care doctor before you see a specialist. Some tests also need approval from your insurance first. The FCCI team checks these things, but it helps to ask when you book: do I need a referral, and will my test need approval?

Keeping costs down

FCCI was the first in the region to offer catheterization procedures in an outpatient setting, and says this reduces out-of-pocket costs compared with a hospital setting. Ask whether a test or procedure can be done in the office.

FCCI also offers payment plans if necessary, and publishes a self-pay fee schedule for patients without insurance. We do not list prices on this site because costs depend on your plan and what your doctor orders.

Tips to avoid billing surprises

  • Bring your current card to every visit
  • Tell the front desk when your insurance changes
  • Ask about your copay and deductible when you book
  • Keep your visit summaries and bills together
  • Call with billing questions early instead of waiting

Heart care close to home in Clay County

Insurance questions are easier with the right office in mind: FCCI's Orange Park location at 1465 Kingsley Ave, serving Fleming Island, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs and the rest of Clay County. It is led by Dr. Youssef Al-Saghir, Director of FCCI Clay County Operations and cardiology chair at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital. Medicare, Tricare and most major insurance are accepted.

Questions to ask your provider

  • Is my exact plan accepted?
  • Do I need a referral or approval for this visit or test?
  • What will my copay or deductible look like?
  • Is a payment plan available if I need one?

A neighborly word from the Clay County team

Coverage questions are normal, and the office staff deal with them every day. Bring your insurance card and any referral paperwork to your visit, and ask about anything that is unclear. If you want to check before you come in, just call the office.
